Any Given Sunday

I don't know what to say really. Three minutes till the biggest battle of our professional lives. It all comes down to today. Now either we heal as a team, or we're gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play, till we're finished. We're in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of hell. One inch at a time.

Now I can't do it for you. I'm too old. I look around, I see these young faces, and I think... I mean I've made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased off anyone who's ever loved me, and lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror. You know when you get old in life, things get taken from you. That's part of life. But you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out life's this game of inches. And so is football. Because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small. I mean... one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow too fast, you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They are in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches, that's gonna make the fucking difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying! I'll tell you this - in any fight, its the guy whose willing to die who's gonna win that inch. And I know if I'm going to have any life anymore, it's because I'm still willing to fight and die for that inch. Because that's what living is! The 6 inches in front of your face...

Now I can't make you do it. You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think you're gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you. You're gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it, you're gonna do the same for him.

That's a team, gentlemen. And either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die, as individuals.

That's football, guys. That's all it is. Now, what are you going to do?

Staying up to late

I have just lost the will to update this recently.

It was not a good Christmas at all, just one more day left this year where you have to worry about what you are doing for your own sanity. So far it doesn't look good.

The last few days I have not exercised as I should of and ate FAR too much, I actually think I am fatter...the fuck

I don't even wanna think about it

Boxing day was a total flop, the deals were essentially shit to non-existant. Recession.

My Top 25 Tracks - This list is the son of rage and love

This is my list, not based on fame or fortune...I know in sometime I will look back and regret some choices, but as of now I stand by these. Sometimes thereis more than a song than amazing solos or powerful meanings, sometimes a good song can just make you feel right.

Jesus of Suburbia-Green Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3fjjomRGD0
The rock ballad of my generation, well ya…this was released in 2004, so I would have been in grade 10. This 9 minute power jam sometimes finds it self on loop and max volume when I am alone in the house, yes…LOOP. I want to feel like I understand the song, but I was never the angsty teenage type, but I want to believe.

Everything is Automatic-Matthew Good Band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij_Dg1KWDvc
The description says it all, the best song of 1997, what can I say. I remember watching MuchMusic as a youth and hearing the great tracks like this, then coming back years later hear them again (on the radio or what have you) and just to know you loved them all along.

99 Luftballons-Nena http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQYQTFudrqc
The 80’s to end all 80’s, this is a powerful jam indeed. First heard it when I bought this best of the 80’s collection (don’t ask, I was probably born in the wrong decade). I love this song, I dunno what is it…there is an English version so I do know what it’s about.

Lithium-Nirvana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x698XNiV6T8
It was a toss between this and teen spirit, but this one came out on top. Spirit always seemed a lot more commercial to me (I do own a Kurt Cobain circa Teen Spirit action figure btw). This song seems so emotional, so powerful, it’s like I really get what he is saying…and knowing the end result, it doesn’t feel good. It’s like the whole song is a big lie.

I Won't Love 사랑안해 – Baek Ji Young http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWZ9nxqv_v4
Beautiful voice, I cannot stress that enough, I first heard this via live version, so check that out if you believe her voice is the product of the wonders of technology. I actually found this song via Youtube’s “you may also enjoy…” I have never been more grateful. The song is obviously sad in nature and Baek Ji Young needs no help in conveying the powerful message…whatever it may be. Korean is just really pretty to listen to.

In the air tonight-Phil Collins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDhf_0QtM10
Two words. DRUM SOLO. The very best Phil Collins has to offer. I own ‘No Jacket Required’ tape deck by the way. Rumours regarding the song’s meaning stretch farther than your large intestine. My understanding it is about his divorce, you really get that vibe. At first it’s hard, it’s a struggle, it’s depressing and you feel like there is nothing. This is conveyed via the essential LACK of any form of music. But when it is all said and done you are free, you can get on with your life and you feel the power that is liberation and freedom. Que drum solo. DADA ADADA ADA DAAAAAAAAAAA.

Orange Crush-R.E.M. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToVIlrfpBAA
It’s R.E.M. no one knows what its about half the time, you can thank Michael Stipe’s thesaurus and lyrical genius. Still this is definitely one of my pump up songs. Running hard? Throw on this bad boy and get jacked up. Either way the song is probably about the Vietnam conflict…ahh whatever it is just a really great track.

Earth Angel-Cover by Marvin Berry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGuUM6LMadw&feature=related
I know what you are thinking, what the fuck? This is a great song, a great great song. As a fresh faced youth watching ‘Back to the Future’ I fell in love. It is so beautiful, I do enjoy the Berry version over the original Penguins version just because of the added ending part. Makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Makes me wanna set up my mother and father to fall in love, you know because no King has ever amounted to anything in the history of Toronto, well history is gonna change. (Yes I had to).

38 years old-The Tragically Hip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbIZ1IuqCzU
The best part of a Hip track is the story often included. From beginning to the end you are submerged into another world and held there by the powerful band and dare I say even great vocals of Gordon Downie. “…they still stare at their shoes when they pass our place”. I know this part all too well.

With or Without You-U2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKdUQD4EBAQ
How could U2 not make a list like this? Come on. On the surface it seems like Bono sings about the love of a woman. I was always of a different stroke, to me he is singing about his religion and faith. Sometimes I guess he just can’t do it, with or without. Not to mention, BASELINE…the drums are pretty sick to, nice 8ths on the toms.

White Houses-Vanessa Carlton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXNfpa-kc80&feature=related
Ah, the college experience I will never get. I love this song, since the day it came out and I saw it on Much More Music, to this day. Let’s not forget that beautiful piano…so much so even I learned how to play it.

She-Green Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgumG6Oeg1w
Now this is Green Day, a quick power jam, fast and hard like punk was meant to be. Ya they may not be punk punk, but they are a pseudo if not like, semi-punk…at least they were. Look at this energy of this performance, it is amazing…true artists they are. Enough said.

Naveed-Our Lady Peace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mYQfrEe5iI
The nasally falsetto that made them famous. This is THE track which spawned it all, from a Criminology student at U of T (yeah) to the front man of an amazing band, Raine Maida forever remains in my mind a beacon of hope. Dare to dream. Oh ya, the song fucking rocks…what can I say, another day is gone.

One-Metallica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXPkmIwwobA
Fuck yes, Justice for all…a SICK album, and I don’t use that word too often. This song starts amazing and gets even more amazing, is that even possible? Do you know how many times I have cranked my speakers to max and blasted this mother fucker? How many times my friends and I have done the same except driving in a car. Do you know the beating my floor has taken as I kick away to the double bass. Do you understand the plight of my thighs as I slap away to the snares. DO YOU? Listen, listen LOUD and if you don’t start rocking out…I am sorry, you aren’t human.

Jeremy-Pearl Jam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS91knuzoOA
Ahh man, I have sung this song at karaoke in a Fox and the Fiddle before at the top of my lungs, and I would do it again. This is probably Pearl Jam’s most known song, arguable for sure, but at least one of them. The message is clean and true. The vocals, that baritone gift from God we call Eddie Vedder. The band? Just as good. Based on a true story.

Bullet with Butterfly Wings- The Smashing Pumpkins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktff3bZpux8
Man, how I miss old pumpkins, it was either this or 1979, I am still unsure whether I made the right choice but both are powerful tracks. The drums in this? Top notch, they echo the fury, nay the rage, (get it) of Billy Corgan’s vocals. To be honest…the song has a strong message, often when I am angry I think about this, and I realized more than not, it’s futile and senseless.

Hungry like the wolf-Duran Duran http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJRCE6e2xIg
Another blast from the past. Even the Queen likes Duran Duran.

馬德里不思議-Jolin Tsai http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd-MCDOj6oM&feature=related
Come on…this is a fun song, probably one of the only good memories of I have of that ex. Being the Chinese fob she was, she uploaded many Chinese songs to my Ipod, in fact I blame her for my now wide appreciation of the genre. I digress, I can’t help but listen to this mando-pop piece and smile the whole way through. The intro? Priceless, I love the up and down effect she does with her voice, it like builds up to something, then brings it back down…love it. Funny story about this song actually, it involves me, Calculus, and humming this song in front of my entire class. Awkward.

チャットモンチー - ヒラヒラヒラク秘密ノ扉http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxFmfj00R6s
So much energy from three girls. Props. Instrumentals, great…namely the drums for this track, but the back up vocals certainly add a lot I cannot lie. What sells it is the lead vocals, her voice is powerful, commanding, and maybe even intimidating at times…not to mention it sounds great. I have no clue, none, what this song about. I always assumed it was about her car. I honestly from the bottom of my heart believe that.

My Music at Work- The Tragically Hip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSQbLYz_Gtk&feature=fvw
I have fond memories of listening to this song with Steve Cawthorne in his car on the way to their cottage. I never decided whether it was his music at work, that is to say the music as he works/does his job. Or is it some action or outcome the result of the music he has created. Watch the video, when he returns to sit as his desk…that’s what a man looks like. The look on his face. Priceless.

Nautical Disaster-The Tragically Hip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Fi46BFAF0
One word, intro…powerful shit…scratch that, two words, intro and end…they both rock…fuck that, the whole thing is great. It starts calm, mellow, you really get into it, then just like a disaster can strike out of the blue, the track gets a lot harder, a lot faster…it carries you through, until the end when there is nothing, nothing but the sound of the band playing in harmony, a beautifully crafted piece. There are no words, no need for words…some things, like an accident, disaster or break up just cannot be explained away.

Cars-Gary Numan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldyx3KHOFXw
This is the song which inspired me to finally go out and get my licence. I mean this is how I always pictured driving, the truth is much less glamorous, much more dangerous, and a lot less catchy. Some might say Gary Numan was ahead of his time, a piece like this in 1979? I don’t know, I’m not a math surgeon. What I do know is this song has solid vocals which hook you in and then amazing synth to close. Synth was new at the time and essentially revolutionary, with that in mind you have to consider just how powerful the track is. Gary creates vivid images for the listener, it’s how I imagined being a driver would always be. Youth.

銀色ドレスGin'Iro No Dress- Hiroko Moriguchi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkc5RNH8AHs
I am surprised as you to see a song from an anime here, (well I don’t think it was originally from one but who cares, that is where I heard it) but I must be true to my feelings and report what I feel our my favourite songs. This was the title track on the special edition Zeta Gundam DVD releases. I can tell you with honesty there were times where I would just leave that DVD menu up to hear it over and over again. I am happy to say Moriguchi’s vocals have stood the test of time, considering the piece was made in the 80’s and this video is from the 2000’s. From what I can gather from the credits the song is called ‘Silver Coloured Dress’ and like the numerous other non-English pieces on this list I have no idea what is said, part of the fun I think, let’s you really appreciate vocals and music in general over some message or convoluted meaning. I digress, the only time I can think of anyone wearing a silver dress, or even close…a white dress? Would be their wedding day, and how can that be anything but magical and beautiful?

Cum on Feel the noise-Quiet Riot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW2J_UZ8lQU&feature=PlayList&p=D592FA16892669A4&index=0
I was sitting in Calculus in my first year of university reading the Metro when I heard of Kevin DuBrow’s passing. It’s hard to explain how I felt, I had no connection with this man be it personal or spiritual, the only bond we shared was a song, this song. That night I went home and I must have listened to this 10 times, at least. This is 80’s hair metal at its finest. No contest. The track is powerful, pumps you up, and really makes you want to feel the noise.

Yellow Ledbetter-Pearl Jam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs8y3kneqrs
The quintessential Pearl Jam track, hard to believe it was on Jeremy B-side…This is hands down my favourite Peal Jam song, no contest, no debate, no second thoughts, nothing…this is it. There are more versions of this than I can remember, the lyrics change and evolve with the times as does the band and the man who delivers them. Overall the meaning is this: A man name Tim Ledbetter has a brother who goes to war, Gulf war at the time of recording and dies. Tim receives a letter notifying him of his death, it’s a yellow coloured letter. Tim is devastated, he still sees his brother everyday, he doesn’t even want to feel this way again. One day him and Eddie go for a walk and pass by an American flag on a porch with some eldery people present. Tim salutes the flag, but due to his unkempt appearance (it was the 90’s and it was grunge) the people disregard him. They will never know what Tim gave for the country.

Eddie powerfully captures the emotions of the whole ordeal, you really feel like it is you who lost someone close to you, you know that pain. On those days when I think about the people no longer in my life, I listen to this song, it reminds me that there are others out there who know what it’s like…who know that they’ll ‘never see their brother alive again, oh no…’. I can tell you this, many is the day I am sitting on an empty(for the most part) bus/subway and I will just belt out this song, sometimes I just don’t care what people think of me, it’s rare but it happens.

Don't cry Al, there'll be another war

Uneventful day...

Literally, never thought I would be bored without school...tried my hand at the U Of T gym today, you know surprisingly not everyone in there is a giant meathead benching 6000 tonnes, I was actually lifting more then some guys there believe it or not, feels good.

So I was thinking about all the great musicians and actors taken from us before their time. Doesn't feel good. No I am not talking about Heath Ledger, he was never good let's face it. A Knight's tale was an entertaining experience but let's face it, the Joker has become the icon of teenagers and hipsters and is a farce. Everytime I see anyone of any age wearing a Joker tshirt, or a Whysoseriousimahugefaggot hat/tshirt/msn display pic/condom I just die alittle inside.

You know what I hate, when they play a movie on television over and over until you have seen it to death, and then when you do wanna see it...it isn't there. I have this urge to watch Hamburger Hill, a great piece I might add. This summer it was played ad nauseam (can I even use that term without refering to an arguement? I don't know I am not a math surgeon) and now...no where, the God damn thing is like UFOs and the Samsquanch.

Speaking of which, wtf is up with UFO 'evidence', ya I get it when they show me the videos from the 70's or early 90's, but how come everytime we get a video from THIS decade, it still lookslike refried shit, what the fuck..no one owns a God damn Canon? Everyone is still taking polaroids or some shit? Honestly, maybe if someone had some reputable video, that is not filmed with some piece of shit circa 1623 and used I dunno, a steady cam and noy had a fucking monkey operate the thing, their claims would carry weight.

Just my 3 cents on the whole issue.

Gandalf on finishing exams

"From the lowest dungeon (SF basement) to the highest peak (Kamma's Turotial room, fuck stairs) I fought with the Faculty of Engineering... Until at last I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountain side... Darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time... The stars wheeled overhead, and every day was as long as a life age of the earth... But it was not the end. I felt life in me again. I've been sent back until my task is done"

"End? No, the journey doesn't end here.
Exams are just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it...

White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise. "

A show of hands from those in this audience of one

Uneventful day...

Lin alg, hard fast approaching, to be honest...I had what I call a "math day" this is one of those days where you take a gander at your notes/theorems and you just hit em hard, and you just understand with the fury of the ancients. With that said, I really feel good about the exam as it stands. I think if tomorrow is anything like today I will be in at least a decent place.

Decent is relative given linear is my lowest mark, so ya...decent doesn't mean 80's.

So I got some timbs today, that's right...David King, my loafers and dress shirts got a pair of those hardhitting mother fuckers. When I put those bad boys on I just felt like I had to stop something, hard.

So I think I am going to attempt to visit some people of my past tomorrow in a place unforgiving, unless NCIS is new, then I won't. Else, I haven't been there in a really long time and I don't know if I am ready for it. Everytime I even think about it I get worried...kinda looks like this,

Anyways I like this shortened live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE28dw3S2CY&feature=related

Vindication

Uneventful day...

FOR THE EXCEPTION OF THE FACT I AM SEEING OUR LADY PEACE, fuck ya...Thank you, you know who you are...couldn't be happier.

But alas, every cloud has a silver lining right? Mechanics was violent like 6 guys vs me rape...violent...

What can I say...

"Son, have I got a little story for you, what you thought was your daddy, was nothing but a husband. While you were sitting home alone at age 13, your real daddy was dying...sorry you didn't see him, but I'm glad we talked...ohhh I..I...I'm still alive, ehhhhhh I'm still alive..."

Blast from the past

Uneventful day...

So I finally got my fight, APS exam down, few more to go. The thing was a beast, completely different and insanely difficult compared to 08. I want to complain and whine and bitch, but it's done with now so I won't.

Furthermore, today at ~10:30pm the Weather network said it was -7 with windchill feeling like a brisk -20, my first cold weather run of the year. Nothing to it. Only did 5k because my legs hurt but nonetheless, piece of cake...well half a piece.

And to close today, a motherfucking blast from the past courtsey of Stephen Chiu:

The day I killed my WoW e-rep,
July-11-06, 12:10:07 AM
(that's reputation)
My character is Halladir, and as you can see I have rolled "need" on the items after everyone else passed. This was common practice after dowing a boss. One would pass on the items and people would roll for them (as per the picture) highest roll taking the item. I decided to fuck these guys over, (zealot Christian idealist douchebags, don't get me started), and stole the loot.

Gotta love "Gnomegeddon's" response, 'ninja' wow dawg...deep how did you figure that out? what gave it away? what a pro tip...

Ohh man good times, sometimes I miss that part of my life. Sometimes.

You wore a shirt, violent green...uh huh

Uneventful day...

Still another day between me and some glorious combat, aka an exam...I never thought I'd see the day when I want them to come sooner rather than later. This semester has just been a wash of, well...it just hasn't been my favorite. Irony much?

Our Lady Peace is coming to town in March, I am contemplating getting some tics, will be awesome no doubt...ahh another good band, No Doubt...just listening to them today, weird.

You know what I hate, when you try to do the right thing, or a good thing and it just fails miserably. I.e. attempting to print stuff for the artscis using my engineering quota, hard printer fail/mad queues. That's hard fail.

You know what else? Fat people. Lose some weight, swear to God if there was money given out for everytime people couldn't make it on the subway because of fat people, then there wouldn't be an economic crisis.

Massive penis in the Metro today

Very often the path of the rigtheous man is beset on all sides by those who would see him fail.

I speak to you now about the evils of Linear Algebra and my endless crusade to best it. Honestly, some of these questions I look at and a feeling of despair engulfs me, and a crimson wave surrounds me as far as the eye can see...

But then I remember that I was born in the heart of a dying star, and basking in the light of a yellow sun I can...well

put it this way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lx8ZlbGYhw8

A weight has been lifted from my shoulders I kid you not.

Advent

I wrote a huge ass post and posted it and got some error, the fuck...what a piss off...

To sum up, if you don't own an Advent caldenar and you are not fob-Asian, you are a communist. There I said it.

So in short, how the hell is the red part water pressure, why the hell isn't it silt, when did we even cover anything remotely similar, and why is this so bullshit?

In closing, bagels good, seeing Michelle, (even if it is a Gerstein) good, civ past exams, not so good.

Steven Seagal, LAW MAN

This is quite possibly the greatest show ever made, ever. Enough said.

Seagal kicks ass, real-life ass. Arrests people, gives life lectures, and doesn't afraid of anything.

I work out in the office, I guess I'm fit for business

Uneventful day...

So, busting away on this CDS like it's going out of style. If I am lucky; it is.

Anyways, I really love this band, I have listened to almost their entire collection and I am not gonna lie, I enjoy about 90% of it, which is rare for me, even my most loved of bands (see: Pearl Jam, Greenday, Matthew Good Band, etc) don't pull me in like this, isn't that weird? it is...I dunno dog.

Anyways, this is a good video (in the sense that I don't care about the video I just want the song lol), has my favorite song from them. The first one, I dunno, I just assume she is singing about her car. Sounds like a car song.

Alot of energy from three people, three women no less...surprising. I remember when I first heard them I was intrigued, upon inspection I would totally wreck everyone of them...man a band full of short hair girls.

In the most respectful way possible.

Fucking fuck.

CDS is hard due this monday, completely forgot. Hard fuck. Fuck.

Have barely done shit, If shit was on the integer scale, I have done negative shit.

If shit was on the ratio scale, I've done 0/shit, which equals nothing.

If shit was on the ordinal scale, well, ordinal scale is just for ranking, the numbers have no real meaning...but still...

All this liberal environmental crap add-ons too, the hell is this? Everyone who knows me knows I don't care about the environment at ALL, only thing I do is turn off lights witht he fury of an OCD crazed old man and use paper like it's the last piece on Earth. Other than that, I don't care.

Tomorrow, CDS work...I'm unbelieveably bad at MS Word too, don't tell anyone.

Top 10 Movies of the Decade.

This is my list, yes 2009 isn't over, so let us hope nothing blows my mindor this list will look quite foolish indeed.

Movies aren't on this list because they won an oscar or made a fuckton o' money. They caused me to think, or challenge my views on something. They caused me to reevaluate what I believed. They made me remember, they made me forget. They changed my life.

Departed / Infernal Affairs: I group these two together and count them as one, considering the Departed is a remake. Regardless as such, this is the cat and mouse tale of the decade without a DOUBT. Who is the cat and who is the mouse? To be honest the question cannot be answered, but what unfolds for the viewer is a tale that leaves you on the edge of your seat. The star studded casts of the two films consisting of: Andy Lau, DiCaprio, Tony Leung, Mark mother fucking Walhberg or Alec Baldwin each deliver a performance worthy of praise and admiration. These films promise to leave you guessing till the very end, and given the version you watch, a surprise ending is what you are in store for.

Andy Lau: "I'm a cop"

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Beautiful imagery, metaphors wrapped in enigmas, Zhang ZiYi (hot), and my man Chow Yun Fat (never had a bed performance to my knowledge). This film struck success both in Asia and here in North American, a feat not easy for Asian cinema especially in our centralist-view based society. Regardless, the film packs powerful action scenes-although many if not all physically impossible-based in illusion and intrigue. Many would say that as a westerner I can never truly understand what the movie represents, both in practice and in idea. This I cannot refute, but to me the movie is beautiful and touching piece which leaves me coming back for more each time. It is my humble opinion that it is the love stories entwined in the film which make it the real gem. In many ways the actors are puppets on the grand stage of a play which they know in their hearts has a sad ending. Nonetheless the band plays on so to speak and to the ending is enough to leave anyone teary eyed (or guessing??? If you recall the end). Man I’m actually getting a little miffed thinking about the ending…fuck…

”I wish that we'll be in the desert together again.”(final line)

Zodiac: Based on real events, one of the many movies of this type on my list as you may notice. The film for me is the ‘King of Suspense’ of the last decade. To me this movie portrays the work of the little man, his trials and tribulations against a seemingly unknown evil. Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a believable and amazing performance of, well, an average man. This man watches the news and hears about a mysterious serial killer. He then decides to take the investigation into his own hands…basically he’s fucking Nancy Drew, except it’s way more epic. Did I mention he’s supported by Robert Downey Junior? What more do you want people? I can safely that there were times during this film that I was so on the edge of my seat, I was worried I was going to fall off. The fucking suspense KILLED me, haha get it? I thought it was kind of clever. In many ways I think I love this movie so much because it is such an endearing tale about someone’s quest to just finish a job. Not to mention the ending left me with a tingling sensation on the back of my neck, I just needed closure, even in that final confrontation I needed it then more than ever…I want to believe that Jake got his, at least I felt like he did from his face…for me, it never came.

Jake: ”I... I need to know who he is. I... I need to stand there, I need to look him in the eye and I need to know that it's him.”

No Country for Old Men: Greed, Conscience, and a man’s word. That is what this movie can be summed up to in three words. If he didn’t take the money, this wouldn’t have happened. If he hadn’t have grown a conscience and good will in the night, this wouldn’t have happened. Had a man’s word not been the be all and end all of agreements which transcends this physical plane…you guessed it, wouldn’t have happened. Javier Bardem was essentially unknown to me prior to this film, but man oh man, was his performance top notch. I believe in some sense Chigurh (Bardem) represents death in its entirety, he is an unfazed and unstoppable killing machine bent on money and above all keeping his word (a justification used all to righteously as an excuse for murder…ironic, kinda). Apart from him is Tommy Lee Jones (the actual main character), Tommy plays a small time Sheriff caught in the past and trying to deal with something so unreal for him and his small town views. To me he represents America and the Western world in general, a set of ideologies and beliefs routed in tradition but now overall flawed in an ever changing world in which we live. His world is shaken by the string of unexplained and gruesome deaths he encounters in his investigation, the likes of which would of never happened in his day. Oddly we learn, as does he, that such things have always happened in human history, and always will. In the end there is only so much one man can do to fight evil, and in the end you can never truly win. I guess the bad guy does win sometimes. And then the film cut to black.

Gone Baby Gone: Casey Affleck, who saw this coming on a top 10 list? If there is one thing to say about this movie it is a question. I want you to watch this film and ask yourself, ‘Did he do the right thing?’ Since I watched that movie the question has never been answered one way or another for me. Some days I think yes, some days I think no. Did he do the right thing? Casey is supported by the heavy hitters Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman. Both of which have their own crosses to bear as they struggle to walk the line between right and wrong and protect arguably the most innocent of us all, children. This movie made me question a lot of things, the duty of police officer for one, when does the badge stop and the human begin, or where does the human stop and the badge begin, some dialogue within the film reveals a past act by Ed Harris in the interest of a child where as a police officer he does something illegal for a great good. I often recall this and I know in my heart of hearts that if it was real and it was me, I would have done the same thing, every time…scary thought…but I admit it freely. I ask you to watch this film and ask yourself the same question I posed before.

’ Ed Harris: Fucking A! You gotta take a side. You molest a child, you beat a child, you're not on my side. If you see me coming, you better run, because I am gonna lay you the fuck down! Easy. Casey: Don't feel easy. Ed Harris: Is the kid better off without his father? Yeah. But okay, I mean, could be out there right now pumping with a gun in his waistband. It's a war, man. Are we winning? No.’

Bourne Identity: This is the action film of the decade. Without a doubt in my mind this is it. If we have learned anything form this movie it’s that you can’t train these guys so well or it’s probably going to come back and bite you in the ass, you know these secret agent kind of things, a lot of ins, a lot of outs. Matt Damon delivers a powerful performance as Jason Bourne, mother-fucker-awesome-to-the-max-extraordinaire. My favourite scene of this film is by far the US embassy, MOTHER FUCKER TOOK OUT LIKE 6 MARINES IN CQC, then he takes a fire map from a wall and a radio off a marine SO HE CAN HEAR THEIR MOVEMENTS BROADCASTED, like Jesus CHRIST, this guy owns a lot of ass. I think if you ask any straight male what guy they could be if given the chance and they would tell you Jason Bourne. I mean, the guy kicks ass. So why is it in the top 10, I mean apart from that if it wasn’t Id be to afraid of Jason’s retaliation…shit, can I call him Jason? Well the fight scenes and stunts, to which there are many, are amazingly choreographed and executed. The chase scene in the mini, fantastic. The story is believable enough that he’s a badass secret agent, now with morals and a heart so willing suspension of disbelief isn’t required to the extremes needed of the 80’s and 90’s action films. To anyone who watches this, complete the trilogy, money and time WELL spent in this writer’s opinion.

Jason Bourne: I can tell you the license plate numbers of all six cars outside. I can tell you that our waitress is left-handed and the guy sitting up at the counter weighs two hundred fifteen pounds and knows how to handle himself. I know the best place to look for a gun is the cab of the gray truck outside, and at this altitude, I can run flat out for a half mile before my hands start shaking. Now why would I know that? How can I know that and not know who I am?

Oldboy: The Korean revenge movie, of the decade, nay I would go as far as saying all time. If there is any movie which can show you just how fucked up Koreans are, it is this. This film is not for the faint of heart, I warn you now. Possibly my favourite movie of all time, yes bold statement, this film shows you the lengths some will go for a dish best served cold (15 years cold), revenge. My first time witnessing a performance by Choi Min Sik left me in awe, to this day I have yet to watch a bad movie where he has taken part in, a fine fine actor to say the least. Director Chan-Wook Park creates an engaging screenplay which sucks the audience in and does not let go. This is a challenging film to say the least, I dare not go into the details and spoil it, but if you view this with an open mind there is no way you can be disappointed. The film is set to a killer soundtrack which one of the pieces to this day remains as my phone ring tone (the Last Waltz). To conclude, as is the way of all Asian cinema, the ending is left ambiguous and up to the viewer to decide, which some may find quite the treat. I leave it to you.

’Woo Jin Lee: Be it a rock or a grain of sand, in water they both sink the same.’

The Pianist: To sum, big Jew, lots of Nazis-awesomely dressed as always-doing Nazi shit, more Jews, there’s a ghetto tossed in there somewhere, and ya…and I think Adrian Brody plays an instrument somewhere in this film? I think it might be the cello, but the jury is still out on this one. If there was one word to describe this film, it would be STRUGGLE, everything for the Jews is a pure struggle, fuckers just can’t get a break it would seem. Nonetheless and pseudo-racism aside this is a touching tale. I don’t have any memories before watching this film of really feeling for a character in a film, I guess when I saw this I was still young and naïve to cinema, so forgive me. You really feel for Adrian, in many ways you are brought into his life and then have it ripped out from around you as the world goes to shit. The themes of the film are obvious to even the most blank of minds, equality, yadda yadda yadda Jews this, Nazi this, it has been done to death but alas I believe there is an unexplored theme which I found interesting upon inspection. You learn by watching this that a nation and its ideals do not represent the people who call it home. Such is the product of democracy where only the majority speak for all. Of all the people to help Adrian in this film, the one who does is the last you’d expect. I guess in the simplest of words, you can’t judge a book by its cover. I believe in many ways aside from the obvious victims (Jews) the unsung victims are the German’s who didn’t believe in the Nazi party and their ideals, the German Officer in this movie is one of such people. In the end I am left feeling more sorry for him than I do for Adrian. The film ends with a beautiful rendition of Chopin's Grand Polonaise brillante in E flat major. ( Ya I had to look that up, what am I an artsci how the fuck would I know otherwise?) In many ways this grand finale in front of this huge crowd makes it seem like nothing really happened, like it was just a bad dream, one day he’s playing, the next he is playing again…I guess the only scars carried are those in his memory.

Jarhead: Jake again?!? What can I say, the man does good work. This is probably the Full Metal Jacket of my generation, I guess ya, anti-war type sentiments and all. The Gulf War, essnetially the precursor to the war of my generation, so why not have a movie about it? Basically I only saw this movie originally because of the trailer, Kanye’s Jesus Walks thrown in made it seem baller as fuck, and I was right. This is not an action movie as many believe it is, me included prior to watching it. This is a character piece and drama about an event which changed the world as we knew it, I was too young…but from what I gather that’s what the Gulf War did. As I watch this film I am most drawn to Jake and Jamie Foxx (another great). Having never been a Marine nor in combat I can never fully appreciate just what these guys go through, but the movie pulls me in, it makes me feel like I am apart of that family, that brotherhood, I am in the corps, it is very powerful in its representation of the life of these men, not much more, if not the same age as me. The film challenges issues like morality, right and wrong, and loyalty in a world turned upside down. But what gets me most about the film is the powerful bonding and imagery created that again as I mentioned, I can never truly understand. To some people the Marines is the home they never had, to others just a stop on a long broken road, Take this powerful monlogue by Jamie Foxx:

’I could be working with my brother right now. He's got a dry-wall business in Compton. Does the inside of office buildings; you know, the metal studs. I could be his partner, said he'd give me that brand new Dodge Ram Charger. You know, the 318 Magnum? The beast? All indoor work, too, lots of AC. I could sleep with my wife every night, fuck her, maybe; take my kids to school every morning. And I'd run his crews, too, probably increase productivity 40 to 50%. Make $100K a year. Do you know why I don't? Because I love this job. I thank God for every fucking day he gives me in the corps,

Combine that ‘from the heart’ speech with the beautiful cinematography that is an oil fire and you have a powerful scene indeed. To me what hit the hardest was just how affected and changed the lives of these men would be forever. A few months in a desert never changed so much for little. Really makes you think. The ending is the crux, life back in America, changed forever by the horrors of the desert. The men of Jake’s platoon flash on the screen showing where they are and what they do, some have meaningless dead end jobs, one is dead, Jamie Foxx is still a Marine this time in Iraqi Freedom, Jake goes to visit the girlfriend who left him. The montage shows you that nothing really lasts forever, not now, not ever, not in the hot desert sand. The fact is, they are back in a country that they would have given so much, everything for, and it doesn’t even care, it doesn’t even know what went on over there and it never will. It will never understand just what some people give/gave for what they take for granted on a daily basis. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever be the same. I think all of my ideas are captured perfectly in this ending quote by Jake:

’A story. A man fires a rifle for many years. and he goes to war. And afterwards he comes home, and he sees that whatever else he may do with his life - build a house, love a woman, change his son's diaper - he will always remain a jarhead. And all the jarheads killing and dying, they will always be me. We are still in the desert.’

Memories of Murder: Another Korean film, so it is of no surprise if at this point you are scratching your head in confusion. After I watched this film one Saturday morning the only thing I could say was wow. I was literally floored, this is a powerful powerful emotional film. For the record, this film stars Kong-Ho Song, my second favourite Korean actor in many greats, but I digress. The film centres around Korea’s first serial killer and the investigation which would last decades and to no avail, a true story so my spoilers are warranted. The film is a powerful look at the lengths people will go to accomplish a job. In many ways I think the film has a lot of parallels to the aforementioned “Zodiac”, this film is better in my opinion but both center around the same issue.

The film depicts the lives forever changed by these senseless acts of murder and its ensuing investigation. The main characters, who there is no sense naming as Korean names are complicated and just, lol. Anyways, the main characters all begin the film with a set of virtues which make them unique, essentially the big two are Kong, the veteran small town cop, and his new partner, a transfer detective from Seoul with a righteous vigour and mantra to never break the laws he protects. As the story unfolds and ends we are left with two shadows, the characters represent silhouettes of their former shelves, a powerful testament to the effects of these deaths. It goes to show you that even the people trying to stop the bad guys get hurt, not just the victims and their families. In a sense these cops had to bear the guilt of every death as they failed in their quest to stop the murderer. A weight no soul should ever have to lift. Again, the beauty is in not just the story but the characters, The towel a rogue cop wraps around his boot so as not to leave scars when he beats confessions out of suspects, a young female cop desperately trying to showcase her abilities in a male dominated Korea, the new detective from Seoul's insistence that documents never lie (and the irony at the climax that challenges his entire sense of being forever), and the main detective's speech on the difference between FBI agents and Korean cops which leave for chilling revelations.

Again, like Zodiac, the film leaves you on the edge of your seat, it’s a mystery and drama and a little bit of action all rolled into one amazing experience. With each turn the police get closer and closer and with each step, a new body appears and the morale of the police and the nation of Korea sink lower and lower. As the body count rises so does the desperation and this you can FEEL, you can feel it as you watch the film, and it haunts you throughout. The movie leaves you holding your breathes in some scenes as you wish nothing more than to see the killer brought to justice and closure finally come. Again, that closure never comes.

I could write on and on, but I think a youtube clip says all I have to. If a picture says 1000 words, look at his face after what the girl tells him. Imagine if you will a lifetime of police work, searching, beating out confessions, sweat and blood all to hear this…enjoy:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdTF4w03Vbo

When I saw this scene…I eeked like a 12 year old girl watching Twilight, powerful, powerful shit. Just like real life. I actually tear up when I watch that scene, and I know what they went through after watching the film…fuck man…

She has no idea and everything. He has every idea and nothing.

On my own, here we go

Uneventful day...

FOR THE EXCEPTION OF THE FACT...I was looking at APS finals on the exam database and lo-and-behold I find a fucking essay question on everyone of them. The fuck is that? That is false advertising, this is engineering not fucking English composition, fucking racism.

So help me God if the policy continues for the 1T3 APS exam, I will write with a fury that burns deep in my soul and that essay will be so God damn unreadable the TA will wish he went to medical school and not this bullshit grad shit he's doing. Fuck you APS.

So I'm hooked, this rando, named Steve apparently has been posting a tale from his life over the last two days. He writes like shit and it takes him forever to type this crap but my God it is entertaining. I find myself drawn into his world, in fuck-knows-where England. Quite the tale, I continue to follow it, more to come no doubt...unless I just never make another blog entry about said topic.

i am so tired. Less than a month. I love [hate] this job.

Surf's up Ace

Uneventiful day...

FOR THE EXCEPTION OF THE FACT THAT I SAW POINT BREAK.

Was it not a few days ago when I recalled with my friend Demetri of the awesomeness that is Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swazye in the the early 90's action piece 'Point Break'. So while im getting deezed and turn on the tv what do I find to my delight? You guessed it.

The movie has everything. Everything. Action, babes, the beach, deezed dudes, surfing, Keanu, Busey, shooting, explosions, and EPIC CHASE WITH AN EPIC ENDING, and the man...Patrick Swazye.

I mean come on, who can forget that epic chase, and the ending of it...shooting in the air out of anger...MAN EPIC...fucking epic.

I think the best part is the end, man...the 50 year storm,
"Look at it! It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, man! Let me go out there and let me get one wave, just one wave before you take me in. I mean, come on man, where I am I gonna go? Cliffs on both sides! I'm not gonna paddle my way to New Zealand! Come on, compadre. Come on! "

Guy couldn't live in a cage I guess, says alot about the human condition. I guess for the Swazye the ride was about more than getting radical.

Anyways, fucking sick movie, FUCKING SICK. I recommend it.

Char's Counter Attack

So at home on a friday night...pretty sad, and instead of studying I thought why not watch an old classic from my DVD collection. One of the greatest from Tomino, another kill-em-all production, Char's Counter Attack brings forth the final saga in a several decade long battle between the loveable but for all intensive purposes evil Char Aznable, and the compassionate protagonist Amuro Ray.

Spoiler's ahead, but you will read on because you crave my ideas.
The movie opens with a spectacular battle in which we learn of Char's plans, a large change considering how we last viewed him as suspected dead in Zeta Gundam. Char’s ambitions aren’t simply to claim independence from the Federation but to ‘liberate’ Earth of all human life. Having grown tired of seeing mankind repeatedly abuse the planet with pollution, he has decided that the future of humanity lies in space; a place where everyone can realize their true potential. Basically at some point he got it in his head that fucking up the planet forever would be a good idea.

The movie is the classic space opera, good and bad. Char represents the repressed emotions, over-zealous ideals, righteous beliefs, but overall evil within us. Char essnetially is the most persistent character of the GUndam universe, unfortunately, he is on the wrong side. There are times when you want Char to win. You want to see his goals fufilled as if they were your's manifested in some space-battling-visual orgy...with robots.
The thing about this film is the volume of characters introduced and many of them new. Even a seasoned veteran of the Gundam universe like myself can have trouble keeping track of various Feddie ensigns or crazy Zeon play-boys. It's like Shakespeare in a way - major and minor characters, each dying alike by the hundreds, few fulfilling their ultimate goals. It's just like war - it doesn't matter who's famous and who's an unknown, for you die all the same. Some find this impersonal, and some find it very realistic. In the midst of all the action, there really is something to be said about this movie - and how space, in the future, can be a graveyard of the lost just like the battlefields here in Earth. It is actually a movie that forces you to think about ideals and beliefs and wonder if they're really worth holding on to when all they seem to lead to is self-destruction, as it seems to do for Char. I think it's kind of ironic in a sense, Char works so hard to free human's from the "pull of Earth's gravity" as he so elegantly says, that is to say, rids humans of the Earth. That he turns space into the same put of despair and misery to which Earth has been for all of human history. Irony.

Skipping the next hour and a half of intense beautifull drawn battle scenes. Many of which are high quality and elaborate to say the least. A testament to high budget and great techniques in animation of 1988. I will proceed to perhaps the crux of the film. The end.

The film culminates in a final one vs one Char and Amuro, the classic fight to which we were gifted with in Mobile Suit Gundam and now are privileged to sloppy seconds, in no way sloppy. On a pure technical basis, Amuro has always been the better pilot and this is quickly apparent as he dispatches Char's attacks with relative ease. But this is not to say that Char is bested, as he is no doubt the second greatest pilot in the Gundam universe next to Amuro. The dynamic duo create a masterful battle of which is a visual orgasm. But this is not why one [nay, why I, many do watch for the Mecha] watches this film.

Throughtout the fight the pilots exchange banter in which the true philosophy and ideals of the characters, and the overlying themes of the series come to light. A human saga one might say. Amuro questions Char's motives and beliefs, he brings to light what is wrong and what is right and in an ever changing world can we ever be sure that our actions will not have consequences, if they do can we live with them, can you live with them?

Char's gripes strike alittle deeper, he blames Amuro (which is true in a sense) for the death of a mutual friend of theirs in the past-Lalah Sune-perhaps a love interest for both Lalah represented the good within both the characters who obviously have shades of grey within. "Lalah could have been my mother" Char states, an unusual statement but for anyone who has ever met someone like this, and this author has, these word's carry alot of weight. Unsuprising then is Char's long distent for our hero Amuro. Char questions Amuro's motives, he wants to know why he protects Earth and the people there who only use him as a weapon of destruction. Char brings to light the irony in Amuro fighting to protect people who use him only to kill. The take away message from Amuro was that the people of Earth need to be their own judge. Simple enough.

To make a long story short. Char is one upped by our 'hero' Amuro and the pair vanish forever after some intense ass overloading of energy within a prototype-frame which connects to a pilots brain. In a explosive light show the greatest protagonist and antagonist of the anime world disappear forever but as with any Eastern production, of course this is not explicit in it's satement so it is up to us the viewer to decide. For me, I like to pretend they both found that peace that a lifetime of battle never awarded them.

Odd how attached one can get to drawings eh? Such is the gift of beautiful story telling. After having watched Gundam for so many years of my life I can safely say this is a powerful and gripping ending to an emotional tale.

I deal in fear

Uneventful day...

Some hard fail at lin again today, hard fail...I have neither the ability nor the patience to learn this subspace crap...it feels like they invented linear algebra to put me down. It is becoming light work.

SO...we started this design stuff in mecahnics, real legit engineering shit, warms an old mans heart I'll tell you that much, reminds me of capacitor design from last year...ahh good times, the kind of stuff where you enjoy doing the problems because they are legit. Too legit to quit. Not the abstract pseudo-intellectual bullshit. See: Linear Algebra and Psychology.

Sorry Psy, low blow I know...but this human factors book I have been reading lately keeps casting you in a bad light.

Oh well, love my way...it's a new rule.

The world is a vampire

Uneventful day...

and what do I get for my pain? Bad bad weekend man, got like no sleep, was sick on saturday, got no work done, almost crashed on the 401. Fuck man, INTENSE shit. Dying in a car crash would be an affront to my warrior spirit. Yes I had to look up how to spell affront, who knew it had two f's? Not I.

Fail fest aka linear algebra is mad hard, MAD...I don't even get it, not a word...it is probably the second if not first most abstract thing I have studied in my life, and I have done two years of quantum and fucking electronic properties last year...the fuck man...fuck this shit. span U, nullA, imA, linearly indeeBULLSHIT. When the hell am I ever going to use this abstract shit? now THAT is an affront to my engineer spirit.

oh well, Jesus was an only son, what does that tell you.

Well there ain't nothing to this but your daughter...

'...and the life you would not give her break your plans'

Uneventful day...

Typical, midterms finish and they just have to give a few more assignments. I don't even know why I am suprised anymore. Oh and its 10 pm on a thursday and I haven;t finished the mecahnics problem set due tomorrow...oddly I just don't care...resubmission ftw. Who am I kidding, I have to work hard, I'm the last of my Kind/g if you will

So I attended a Nov 11 parade today at the civic centre here in the People's glorious region of East York. Man...I'm not the huge patriotic type, sometimes I couldn't care less about the country, hell I don't even wear a poppy because I don't want to put holes in my clothing. Regardless, nothing like a military parade to make you wanna rejoin...gotta talk to someone about that.

Mina Kim was one of them

Uneventful day...

Just like the sunny days that we ignored because we're both dumb and jaded. I hope to God I figure out whats wrong.

Jerid Messa: we hardly knew thee

Uneventful day...

So in lieu of studying or complaining about said studying and related school. The following is my character analysis of Jerid Messa.

...and it all began with Jerid calling Kamille a girl

Jerid is the tragic hero in Gundam Zeta, having his mentor (Lieutenant Commander Lila) and girlfriend (Ensign Mouar) killed and being shot down seven times by the same kid with a girly name. Jerid represents the harsh reality there will always be somebody better out there, no matter how good you are.

You know Jerid was kind of a dick, did a lot of bad things, trashed a lot of Titans Mobile Suits and just screwed up a lot of things in general. But I still felt sorry for him in the end.

I mean pretty much everyone around him dies, hates him or looks down on him and even his own death felt so minor and gets brushed away so easily. He just wanted revenge so badly, for his pride and for everyone.

His determination and will is what made him a likable character.

Time grabs by the wrist directs you where to go...

Uneventful day...

So my nextdoor gave me a pair of 40s and a pair of 55s....FITTY FIVES mother fuckers, it was actually hard work getting them over from his house to mine and up the stairs, God damn. So let's hope one day im deezed enough to curl mo-fucking fitty fives.

Linear algebra is an impending doom which I cannot avoid. I study, but nothing sticks...who knew half the magnitude of cross product of two vectors is the area of a triangle created by those vectors...I DIDN'T

Tomorrow at 9 am the CDS will finally be submitted, with it goes my anxiety and uncertainty of many issues and any obligation I have to complete work within a strict timetable. Tomorrow will also mark the moment I no longer have to go to a partcular library and see a particul person who breaks hearts. Good ridance.

oh damn...thats a good song too...

Uneventful day...

Mechanics, not to shabby...could go either way though as I am the master of mixing up my numbers and putting two's where three's should be, some might say its the King curse. You know all the King's had were are charms and good looks when we came to this country.

So I saw her again monday, I tell you I can't wait for this CDS project to be over, I can't take going to Gerstein anymore, all I do is see her everytime I am there and it just leaves this horrible taste in my mouth. Her hair looks great, not quite as short as it was, but a nice intermediate which forces a second look...oh well, even if it ends justify means nothing is ever what it seems. I still don't have much to stand on, and no one is giving it out.

Another 19/24 day. not bad for day 3 of the set. If only the same could be said for Algebra.

Three equations, three unknowns, we're in buisness

Uneventful day...

Going in guns blazing to this Mechanics midterm, whatever happens, happens...

For the fans

Uneventful day...

So it seems the fans, well you know who you are (out of the millions who read this elegant piece of work, lol) complained about the lack of David-rants. Well let`s just see...

Today was one of those fucking days when you just wake up and it`s still dark and its raining...the sound of my skylights brings feelings of pure rage to me that can only be topped by having to deal with old people on a crowded bus at rush hour...ya fuck you old people, don`t hold up an entire bus full of people as you SLOWLY make your way on...God damn it I hope I never get old.

Anyways rain, it was one of those days with rando heavy periods and mild interludes. To make matters worse, the mild interludes weren`t complete recesses as one would expect, instead they were home to possibly the worst fucking thing nature can summon...DRIZZLE.

Drizzle-or as many would call it, Hitler-is probably the most enraging thing nature can bring to bear. Not only is it annoying as fuck on your face, it`s a silent killer. Prolonged enxposure to drizzle ruins even the mightest of hair-dos silently and without warning, much like Carbon Monoxide, but less sexy.

Furthermore, when it is drizzily you have one of two options, carry an umbrella and look like a douche to anyone not carrying one. Or, not carry one and ruin your life. The choice is ultimately in the hands of the reader. This writer presonally carries his umbrella and suffers the awkward looks of passer-byers whose eyes beg the question of why you would have an open umbrella when it`s not even raining'. Well jackass, I hate being wet and more miserable than my normal cycnical self. Fuck you.

Next rant on shit I hate on the bus. I had a prelude earlier in this text, but will leave the hungry masses wanting more, more, more.

All in all, rain is David's kryptonite.

Uneventful day...

APS class was basically a mixture of waste of time, and total scare-fest. She spoutted all this required knowledge but in essentially different terms than we have learned it for the last two months...typical. Anyways doing the practice tests I usually score about 80%, if that is anywhere CLOSE to what I'll get friday I will be a happy man indeed.

Until then just another day in the suck.

Computer stopped working today, retarded to say the least, Jim quickly deduced the error and fixed it, hence this blog post...

To add to the pain of this week, no new House and no new NCIS...All I have now are my fading memories.

Sometimes at night I hear it roll...

"...a hundred cars long and pulling out slow."

Uneventful day...

I lack the will to study APS111 for it is a course which has tests which rage me to my very fibre. Typical bullshit multiple choice with A-G in selection and difficulty which rivals getting up every morning at seven.

Fuck...I hate first year.

Just watched Black Hawk Down the other night, ohh man...GREAT movie. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys great editing and cinematography. Not to mention a dynomite cast.

Lived on a curve in the road...

"...in an old tar paper shack. On the south side of the town, on the wrong side of the tracks."

Uneventful day.

Got Mechanics test back, 75%, not bad considered I thought I failed the class avg was 42%. Hard Fail.

Soon we enter the eye of the storm. The shit storm brewing called the month of November.

If I don't make it I would like November aptly titled 'Sweet November'

Thanks Keanu, stay strong.

I never made it as a working class hero

Uneventful day...

As it stands now our CDS draft is complete, anxiously await its arrival in my gmail inbox for inspection before I give it the final thumbs-up. We put alot of work into it, more than other groups I talked with...odds are with our TA we will get far lower than the aforementioned groups. Typical. See picture, Ethan Hawke realizing his dream as he overcame all obstacles and made it into space. That's gonna be me finally handing in this CDS.

So I watched that movie Milk today, pretty good actually, I can see how Sean won the Oscar, I mean I heard the guy is a complete dick IRL but nonetheless, some good acting. Anyways, I didnt really realize what a hardtime gays had, like we live in such a time (and place, Toronto) where being a homo is no big deal. Just goes to show you how much we have changed as people. In the future I will definitely think alittle more before I use a word like fag, or gay...ya sure I probably won't stop using them, but I for sure will think alittle harder from now on.

Spoiler, he dies...

There's a she wolf in my closet

"...let it out so it can breathe"

Again I have failed myself, unable to make regular posts. Testimony to my busy life I suppose, testimony to my inability to commit to a simple task. Sure I can find time to get deezed everyday and run my knees into the ground. But when it comes to a blog it slips my mind like a fat kid on a bannannananaaa peel.

So I learned alot about myself lately, my ability to command and my ability to delegate. So far my group project is going well, I chalk much of it up to the hardwork of my members but I give myself some credit to. These guys and girls were counting on me to lead them and keep them on track. So far I felt I have lived up to their expectations and I am richer for the experience.

So tomorrow, well tuesday is my linear exam...I trust in my abilities to do the questions, not the theory...LOL. So help me God if it is a theory test, I'm gonna be doing alot of swearing. Alot.

Anyways, earlier this week we had a Mechanics test, dear god...DEAR GOD, it took a week to wash the dirt of me after that.

Picture says it all.

Epic Fail

"See the stone set in your eyes see the thorn twist in your side"

So I totally haven't posted in like a month, well a tad less but who is counting. Let the lack of activity be a testament to my busy schedule.

All I do is work the guns, eat, sleep, run, homework, sleep, eat...oh well I will try to update this more often, I mean it is for my own good I suppose. So as an update I've been made my design team leader, pretty big accomplishment for myself and I trust in my own abilities not to let my team down.

Speaking of that project, we got the outline for the CDS and it is huge, like fucking huge...I mean they say six pages max, sans appendicies but the sheer volume of work required to produce even a bit of DECENT work is gonna be massive. Hopefully my group is confident. They are either gonna pull you down or pull you up, that is what I have been told.

On a related note I am totally behind in every class, and I don't even know how, given how much work I do...typical first year bullshit though. They just pile stuff on to weed out, oh well survived it before I can do it again, but I want to do well, you know how it is.

Oh, and I finally talked to a girl in engineering, actually two...

Anxiety

So nervous man, so nervous

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

They shot a movie once...in my home town

"...well I 'aint no movie star, but I can get behind anything"

So big news indeed for me. As of just the other day I got my first engineering "project" or assignment I guess one could call it, mmhmm very official. We are required for our APS111 class to propose and design a new bike lock/stand system to employ in the city of Toronto, what the hell do I know about bikes and or bike stands?

The stand has to meet a number of criteria including low footprint, ease of use, environmentally affordable, safe and etc etc. Anyways it's pretty crazy as I'm already trying to work on this project and the year hasn't even begun yet...typical David, over the last few days I can't help but notice every bike stand I see on my travels and stop to look at them and analyze, see how they work and whatnot...damn what has happened to me? Note: If you notice that image is of the Walhberg building, cheya

Anyways on the subject of bikes and stands, I have recently stolen the bike of my friend and have been riding it quite often. When you haven't biked in awhile it is actually quite a welcome change from walking, I mean you really can't appreciate the scene as much as when you have a steady walk, but the speed and wind in your hair is more than a fair tradeoff in my humble opinion.

So as any student knows, the begining of a semester marks a time of finacial stuggle. I speak now of our eternal battle with textbooks and their ever increasing prices. It would seem sometimes that even the smallest of books with soft covers have no upper limit to their cost, for shame says this author....for shame. So ya I have been searching for some deals on used texts, many this year will come from my friend Allen, a 1T1 engineer and long time friend. But I fear due to laziness the majority will be new, bullshit.

umm, ya

So I totally just made this on a whim, a whim and a prayer. I've decided for the msot part this blog will be about my new found education in the field of engineering at the University of Toronto, so ya I don't know how often I will update it or if given a few days and I forget all together, whatever ya? ya

so heres my first thing, I've just gotten my shedule and I am happy to see 9 am across the board, hahaha I can't wait. check out that friday too eh, 5 p.m., wth is that? how am I supposed to go out? everyone knows a 5 p.m. G-up time at Coxwell has existed for years...tsk tsk tsk. Not to mention wednesday is pretty retarded, but I guess I'll use that time to come home and go to the lib, or visit my old and faithful Artsci friends, never forget you roots I always say.

Yay thursday, my favorite day of the week ALWAYS since forever.

so ya, got my shedule and now I have to pay my amazingly high tuition, Jim will not be happy.
